People that know me well, know that I always carry a certain type of French pocketknife in my right pocket. I mean always.
You have no idea how many pocketknives I already had to leave behind at airports.
There’s a story behind it why I carry it, but that is of no importance here.
When my son was born 2 years ago, I had a very special collection made by this French manufacturer with his name and a quote engraved in it.
There are only 30 knives like his that exist in the world. On the knife, it states: “A smooth Sea never made a skilled Sailor”.
The reason I made this for him, was because he would have something to hold on when he would have to navigate through turbulent times.
Times like these are exactly what I had in mind when I had the knives made.
Some of you might already feel pain because of the situation. Others of you might think that it’s not so bad for now.
However, I don’t want to sound pessimistic, but the whole situation can:
- Drag on for a prolonged period of time
- Turn into a full-blown recession
I am not stating that I know. Honestly, I don’t know at all.
We could all be back on holiday in 6 months’ time too.
What I do know is that I am mentally, financially and physically prepared for this. It can take another year or longer before I will have to change my ways.
I believe it is something you can still do as well today. I think you should. But that’s just me. Up to you to decide.
Then, I want you to imagine that you received the same pocket knife from your father when you were born. Your father today might be gone -as is mine- or he might still be here.
Either way, you visualize looking at his pocket knife and tell yourself: “You’re right dad, it is now that my true self has to stand up and show what I’ve got.”
I can tell you, I see a lot of different approaches from people today. Some of them are already defeated. They closed down all activities, took a blanket and went hiding.
Others took it on, bought a set of headphones with a mic and went on Skype, Zoom, Teams, on a Whatsapp-video chat or whatever and they made something happen.
And with results.
True word. Our company sold in March of 2020 more than it has ever sold in a single month before.
There is opportunity, whatever the circumstances are. And it is now, at this very moment you are creating your best self.
Wherever your father is today, I would like you to make him proud.
To freedom,
