I recall Christmas 2014. I was kind of hopeless.
The largest of my businesses was failing and I was on the brink of insolvency. I had invested all of my money in my latest venture and it was simply not picking up.
My first years of entrepreneurship had been financially rewarding. And now was the first time in my life that I had no money.
No money meant no presents. No money meant no fantastic family meal. No money meant no skiing.
But the worst part of having no money was that it meant no giving.
I strongly believe that if people are not able to give anymore, it’s as if they stop existing. Because in the end, it’s all about what you are able to give to the world.
It was at that time that I listened to an audiotape by Bob Proctor. He was talking about the law of attraction and how he had met a woman that ended up being his business partner.
At that time, the woman was completely broke.
In the audiotape, she explained how she started giving pennies to charity because she only had dollars. But the key idea was that she would give something, a fixed percentage of her money, all the time.
That idea hit me in the face. I was encountering the most difficult financial hardship I had ever encountered in my life, and there came the idea that I should give more.
But I did it. I gave away (and I still do) a good percentage of what I had to charity.
It was not only by giving away money that I was able to get back on my feet, build a business and go on to become an Entrepreneur-Investor; but it was a big part of creating the mindset I needed to become successful.
In the end, life is only about what you can give to the world. My grandma used to say: “as long as you are able to give, you’re a rich person.”
If you are stuck somewhere in life, or if you want to become a bigger version of yourself in 2020, check in with yourself now. What would this better version of you be able to give?
Then take the first step in becoming that person by starting to give what this person would give.
Most people are go-getters, trying to get things here and there. But if you can become a go-giver, I promise you that it could transform your life in unexpected ways.
To freedom,
